Six rules
What our packers are trained to do
- 01Heavy things go in small cartonsBooks, tinned food and tools ride in the 1.5 cu ft carton. Nothing over 40 lb, because a carton nobody can lift is a carton that gets dropped.
- 02Light and bulky goes in largeDuvets, pillows, lampshades and soft toys in the 4.5 cu ft. A large carton packed with books will fail at the seam.
- 03China needs a dish packDouble-wall with cell dividers, 6.1 cu ft. Plates go on edge, never stacked flat. Stemware gets its own cell and a paper collar.
- 04Fill every voidA carton that rattles is a carton that breaks. Crumpled unprinted newsprint on the bottom, in the gaps, and on top before you tape.
- 05Three strips of tapeOne down the seam and one on each side, top and bottom. Two minutes now against a carton that opens on a staircase.
- 06Label the side, not the topDestination room and a one-line content note. Cartons are stacked when you read them, so the top is never visible.

You can, and they are the single most common cause of a damaged carton. Produce boxes have no top, inconsistent wall strength and often carry pests. They also do not stack, which loses you space on the truck.
